Occupational Health and Safety Act

Pursuant to Ontario Regulation 654/85, Section 5, this is to inform you that friable material
containing asbestos is present in the premises you are occupying at:
Building No, - B10324
T.T.L., Cobalt
in the following locatlon(s):
Fipefitting in boiler room - 50-75% Chrysocile
The locatlon(s) of this material and the type(s) of asbestos involved is described in the enclosed report
dated Nov. 23, 1987 prepared by the Ontario Research Foundation. A copy of this report is also maintained
on the premises in building files.
Section 5(2) of 0, Reg. 654/85 provides as follows:
(2) Where a tenant or lessee has received a notice under clause (l)(b), the tenant or lessee
shall be responsible for performing the duties set out in clauses (l)(c) and (d)
with respect to the workers of the tenant or lessee.
Clauses (l)(c) and (d) referred to above provide as follows:
(c) advise workers of the owner, and workers of whose presence the owner is aware, who may
work in close proximity to the friable material and who may disturb the material of
its presence;
(d) institute and maintain a program for the training and instruction of every worker
employed in the building by the owner who is likely to work in close proximity to and may
disturb the friable material in,
(i) the hazards of asbestos exposure,
(ii) the use, care and disposal of protective equipment and clothing to be used and worn, and personal
hygiene, and
(iii) the work practices and procedures to be used in doing the work as prescribed by this
Regulation;.
In the context of the above, "owner" shall be taken to mean "the Ministry of Government Services of Ontario"
and the terms "tenant" and "lessee" shall be taken as "client ministry".
Friable construction materials containing asbestos are not hazardous if they remain undisturbed or if proper
control procedures described in 0. Reg. 65A/85 are followed in the event of alteration, repair,
maintenance, or demolition work.
